Researcher Connect Workshop at the AIU

December 12, 2017

On December, 4,5 6, 2017 the British Council and the Ala-Too International University Law Department of the Faculty of Economics and Management were held a Researcher Connect workshop. The three-day workshop aims to help researchers to improve their email, proposal, and abstracts writing skills to support them in engaging with both local and international audiences.

The workshop was conducted at a high scientific level by the British Council trainer, Director of the Kazakh-British Center for Professional Development, Chairman of the Kazakhstan National Committee for UNESCO's Geoparks, Ph.D., Associated Professor Dilyara Woodward.

Researcher Connect is a series of short interactive learning modules for researchers at any stage of their career and from any academic discipline. It is a professional development course that focuses on the development of excellent communication skills in international, multi-cultural contexts.

In an increasingly competitive and global market, researchers and the institutions they represent need to communicate their research to an international audience. Key communications skills are required to enable researchers to publish in international journals, present at international conferences, apply for funding from national and international bodies, and build international collaborations to further their research.

The workshop was attended by 23 researchers from universities and research institutions in Bishkek such as the American University of Central Asia, KTU “Manas”, the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Kyrgyz National University, Kyrgyz Economic University, University of Central Asia, Kyrgyz State Medical Academy, Ala-Too International University,  Youth Network Y-Peer, and Rural Development Fund.

The participants built writing skills that they will utilize to successfully promote their research and improve performance in publishing and presenting. As a result, the participants’ organizations improved the quality of research as well as international reputation and ranking.

All participants were awarded by internationally recognized certificates of the British Council.

Jim Buttery, Director of the British Council Kazakhstan, said: “This is part of a new six month investment from  the UK Government in strengthening capability in higher education research across three countries of the Central Asia region: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. An enhanced culture of research is critical for the future competitiveness of the region and an important precursor to new partnerships with UK universities.”

In October 2017, the British Council announced a competition for the Researcher Connect workshops.  The Ala-Too International University and the Osh State University were selected by the British Council.

The Ala-Too International University expresses deep gratitude to the British Council, Dr. Dilyara Woodward and Ms. Diana Tsoi and wishes success and prosperity!
