International competition named after F. F. Martens on International Humanitarian Law

 Second-year students of juridical program of the International University of Atatürk-Alatoo Anna Lee, Zamirbekov Askar, Sabirova Adina took part in the international competition named after F. F. Martens international humanitarian law, held from 24 to 28 April 2017 in Moscow, Russian Federation. Scientific supervisor: Zhyldyz Tegizbekova, Ph.D., Associate Professor.

 The competition is organized by the International Committee of the red cross (ICRC) for law students and faculties every year. This year's qualifying round were 18 teams from 11 countries. In the selection of teams takes into account the knowledge of the norms of international humanitarian law, the ability of the team to substantiate their statements and to respond to the situation.

Zhyldyz Chynarbekovna Tegizbekova.made a great contribution to preparation of the team, which assists them to pass of a rigorous selection. 

 For the week, law students, applying knowledge of humanitarian law in practice, versed in the fictional armed conflict. Performances of teams were evaluated by a jury - the honored experts in the field of international humanitarian law. The competition combines representatives from 18 top universities.

 As for our impressions, everything was top notch from the first day you created all the atmosphere continued until the end of the contest. The rounds were very diverse, depending on specific situations, we have the opportunity to grow into different roles-actors of international humanitarian law. So during the whole contest we were able to apply the knowledge in practice. We played a variety of roles, ranging from legal advisors to representatives of private military companies. Each round was very different from the other, and the atmosphere as well and the use of different norms. Competition Martens was given the opportunity to show himself as a person, to identify their pros and cons as a future specialist in the field of law, as well as extra motivation to study international law in the future.

 The contest was judged by 9 judges from the different countries. Every night they did a review on past rounds. And regarding our team, they stressed that, despite the age of the first experience we have achieved a good and interesting game. They liked the teamwork that we showed. Do help each other in this contest is a very important element for victory. They also said that our team is distinguished not only knowledge, but also the ability to solve a critical situation and appreciated our ingenuity. The main criteria of evaluation teams were: availability of knowledge in the field of international law, the ability to work in a team and public speaking skills.
