April 6, 2017

Dear readers, we are Omuraliev Kurmanbek and Suleimanov Azamat would like to share our experiences and impressions of the 7th Justice P.N Bhagwati International Moot Court Competition on Human Rights which was held on March 24-27 in India in Pune, Bharvati Vidyapeеth Deemed University. This is one of the largest competition in international law among law students around the world. Students from more than 30 universities from 10 countries take part in the competition.

This year the team of students of the Legal Department of the International University Ala-Too for the first time in the history of the university took part in such a large-scale international competition. Students of the department of jurisprudence have done a great job of searching for and processing international laws and precedents. Then, during several days of the contest, they spoke before judges - jury experts as defenders of their parties in the International Court of Justice. The judiciary was represented by the best lawyers from around the world, including international judges, judges of the Supreme Court of India, as well as highly qualified professors and experts in the field of jurisprudence. Separately it is worth mentioning the assistant professor, the teacher of the legal department, the candidate of legal sciences Tegizbekova Zhyldyz Chynarbekovna who took part in the event as a guest judge. She did a lot of hard and hard work, but the past experience of participation and judging in these competitions and high qualification helped to perform her job hard work at the highest level. Tegizbekova Zhyldyz Chynarbekovna distinguished herself with her knowledge, as well as high qualification among judges, which could not leave the organizers of the event indifferent. Zhyldyz Chynarbekovna was awarded with honorary certificates as the most active and qualified judge.

During the 7th Justice, P.N Bhagwati International Moot Court Competition on Human Rights simulates a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice. Each team prepares oral and written statements at the trial from the position of the applicant and the defendant in the case in question. All debates are conducted only in English.

Despite the lack of experience and short deadlines, the students of the 2nd year of the Legal Department performed well and attracted the attention of the organizers of the contest. Among the participants from Our university were: Omuraliev Kurmanbek and Suleimanov Azamat. Our team was the only among the newcomers to enter the top ten, taking the honorable 7th place among 32 teams-participants. The team of the International University Ala-Too was awarded a special cup as the second best debuting team, as well as certificates.
