Zhyldyz Tegizbekova, PhD, lecturer of faculty "Jurisprudence" has taken part in 62nd session of the Commission of the United Nations on a status of women

  The Associate Professor of Law Department AIU Zhyldyz Tegizbekova took part in the 62nd session of the UN Commission on Status of Women on the topic Challenges and Opportunities in Achieving Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Rural Women and Girls (12-16 March 2018). The 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the UN’s largest gathering on gender equality and gender justice. The priority theme of upcoming session will be Challenges and Opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls. This year more than 8000 representatives from 1121 civil society organizations are participating in the session. Along with the official meetings that include Ministerial Round Tables, high-level interactive events and expert panels, over 280 side events and 440 parallel events are scheduled to take place on March 12-23. The participation in the CSW session became possible by the Soros Foundation travel grant program.

  On 16th of March, Zhyldyz Tegizbekova took part and presented her paper in the session on “Rural Women’s leadership in agenda 2030”. The organizers of the side-event was the Rural Women’s Association Alga. In framework of the discussion, the participants admitted a contribution of rural women in promotion of food security, climate change resilience, strengthening of local and national economies. At the same time problems of local women because of gender inequality, social, legislative and economic discrimination. Also, it was mentioned that rural women face the increasing number of obstacles towards the development of their potential for development connected with fast-changing economic conditions, technological development and changes in environmental changes. According to the participants’ opinion of the 62nd Commission on Status of Women leave women far behind in comparison to urban women.  

  During her presentation on  «Access to Justice: the impact of cultural values on the legal capabilities of Rural Women in Kyrgyzstan» Zhyldyz Tegizbekova announced common dimensions of the national policy of the women’s rights protection, gender equality, widening of opportunities for rural women in economic, political and social spheres as well as measures in eradication of discrimination and violence against women in Kyrgyzstan.

  Professor Tegizbekova informed about the adoption of the National Strategy on Achieving Gender Equality in Kyrgyzstan before 2020, and changes in the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic which allow to struggle against discrimination, women’s rights violations and violence against them. Zhyldyz Tegizbekova  mentioned the examples of public bodies’ activity in issues connected with implementation of women’s rights and gender parity. Also, Professor considered the main legal problems of the women’s rights protection, as well as measures necessary to improve the situation of rural women.
