"Importance of gender equality in the development of Kyrgyzstan ‑ Career at the UN"

On October 21, 2016, Mr. Gerald Gunther UN Women Representative in Kyrgyzstan, Mahabat Myrzakanova, Project specialist and Meriza Emilbekova, Communications and Advocacy Specialist delivered a lecture entitled «Importance of gender equality in the development of Kyrgyzstan ‑ Career at the UN" dedicated to the UN day celebration.

Mr.Gerald Gunther has explained the main directions of the work of the UN Women in Kyrgyzstan, which is aimed at advancing gender equality for the benefit of human development of the Kyrgyz Republic. Students have learned a lot about this organization. For example about  the main three basic instruments of the UN Women in Kyrgyzstan CEDAW - The Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, UPR - the Universal Periodic Review, which involves a review of the human rights records of all UN member states and Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action  where each women and girl can exercise her freedoms and choices, and realize all her rights such as to live free from violence, to go to school, to participate in decisions and to earn equal pay for equal work.

The second part of the lecture was devoted to the Career at the UN. Representatives shared their own experiences at the UN. They highly recommended students to do volunteering job to learn and gain experience at international organizations, keep applying to the vacancy positions and never lose hope for being accepted.

The last Q&A part provided students great opportunity to find out answers for their questions. Interesting Questions were asked about the activities of the UN Women and required skills and knowledge to join UN team as well.

At the end of the lecture, UN Women representatives shared contact details and invited to the celebration of the UN Day at the Bishkek Park to continue informal talk. Group picture was taken as the closing note of the public lecture.
